History

History of Balasia | Building History | World View | Links

The sole proprietorship of Balasia, a green world café, began in June of 2006. Our accomplished and fusion oriented chef came from a lineage of local restaurants spanning more than 3 decades. “So Eat Already” began in the 1970s fostering the needs of an emerging generation of vegetarians, vegans and health conscience people the world over as they began their departure from a mainstream diet and lifestyle. Their message was clear: people need to know what they are eating. The self appreciation they showed through their eating habits supplied the small café with a niche customer base.

As times changed and history transgressed through political upheaval and/or social scrutiny, the ownership of this location had been amended. The space had a new name, “The Green Café.” Its niche market and social groups and friends remained. Lasting until about 2005 “The Green” as it had become locally known was succeeding just as well, if not better than its predecessor. The co-op that owned and operated it disbanded leaving just one person as a majority owner.

A chef, who has now reincarnated the realized dreams of an American movement is back as sole proprietor to do what she knows is best for herself, her community and food enthusiasts.
