Reviews from Happy Cow:

"This food is a gift of the universe!"

Posted by anniem on: Monday, March 17, 2008

Review: The next time you go into a restaurant and think the prices are too high, consider this. How many hands does it take to bring you this food? If you really thought about it, the numbers might be in the hundreds. The food at Balasia was some of the most wonderful I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. This is food that should take two hours to eat, at least. Every bite should be considered thoughtfully. When it is presented, it is beautiful. The numbers of ingredients are astounding. The work that goes into the final product is only a result of a very aware chef.
Please support this wonderful endeavor. I don't live near Emmaus and only have the occasional family visit take me there. I do hope it can remain as long as the owner/chef enjoys this labor of love.

"Amazing and Wonderful"

Review: I ate at Balasia in early January 08. It was without a doubt one of the best restaurant meals I've ever had. Ingredients are sourced locally, organic, and the presentation was absolutely gorgeous. I'm vegan, I went with 2 carnivores... they flipped for the food (and presentation) and cannot wait to go back as well. I feel the prices are extremely fair for the quality they offer, and the portions were very generous. Our palates were so tempted, that all 3 of us had a "3 course adventure" AND desert (mmmm, by Vegan Treats, need I say more???) The food was innovative, scrumptious and beautiful. The attention to detail on our plates was incredible, it is obvious this food is prepared with an abundance of thought, love and caring. The restaurant is in a cool old victorian type house, loved it!

"Simply the BEST"

Review: We had an amazing meal at Balasia. It is simply the best vegan meal I have ever had. I have eaten all over the world and lived in France. This was one of the top 5 meals I have ever eaten, period. The presentation was outstanding. The mixture of flavors and textures was incredible.
The real test was my 9 year old. He loved the soup. He can't wait to go back. The childrens menu is actual food you would want them to eat.
It was not cheap, but the soup was huge and $7. A meal in itself. Also, the ingredients are as organic as can be gotten in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania. Wendy, the chef, uses only organic oils. She is very open to assisting guests in getting exactly what they want. She makes every meal. So unless you want soup, plan on having a relaxed repast.
No alcohol is served, however, who would want to take up the room in your stomach. They have vegan desserts to round out the meal.
This is worth the drive up from Philly, down from the Poconos/Allentown or out from New York. We saw a sign for a B&B next door, but didn't look for it. We are thinking of going there after skiing. There are resorts within an hour drive.
